I had the opportunity to meet some of my teammates last week; August 23! But let me give you the back story. I have been in communication with my World Race teammates on a texting app and we zoom every week to get to know each other and do a bible study. Some of my teammates have been meeting up to get to know each other since May 2020, but sadly, not many of my teammates live on the West Coast. So the chances of any of them coming to visit me was pretty slim.

One day, I got a message asking if I was interested in people doing a road trip and driving/flying to California where they could meet me, explore CA and continue their road trip through the U.S. Of course, I told them yes!

When They Arrived!

Two of them drove 32 hours and the other two flew to CA. I reminded them that COVID is very real out here with lots of restrictions on what is open and what we can and cannot do. On top of COVID, I had to work half days, so I couldn’t take them anywhere too far and if it couldn’t get worse; there were many fires happening in CA that closed down roads and parks around me. Doesn’t seem like a prime time to come visit CA, right? Even when I told my teammates that, they still wanted to come.

We explored so many places and ate good food!

-We went San Francisco where we explored Pier 39 and saw sea lions. We went to  Coit Tower, Lombard Street, The Golden Gate Bridge, The Golden Gate Park, where we saw bison, ate seafood and explored beaches at night.

-Went explored the Santa Cruz area on the coast and drove highway 1. We also went to a little island called Alameda where we swam in cold water and drove around Oakland and Berkeley and ate gourmet mac and cheese and had ice cream.

-We sadly drove to a lake, but because of COVID, they recently closed it to only in county residents can visit. So we had to turn around, but we ate great Mexican food that night and had wonderful conversations and played card games.

-We hiked part of Mt. Diablo where we were able to see a lot of the cities around; plus the smoke was clearing up, and we were able to see a pretty sunset and ate good burgers in Livermore.

-We went to Yosemite National Park! Getting tickets is very hard because they sell out so fast. Going here was such an awesome experience and with great company.

I enjoyed my time getting to know these wonderful people and I can’t wait to continue to get to know them and the rest of my team!
